The Department of Homeland Security reports over 450,000 immigrants legally enter the U.S. every year. The largest number of people emigrating here are Mexican (15%), then Chinese (6%), and then from the Philippines (5%). Getting a four year degree in Education will also help with testing, consulting and things that happen in the classroom that aren’t in the syllabus.

While those who want to teach on the K-12 or vocational school level can get away with a bachelors degree in Education, those intending to teach on the college level should expect to go on for their masters degree and even their doctorate. As it happens, one should also consult with financial aid advisors as there are a number of programs that will help pay the way whatever type of institution one wants to teach in.

Wages for this profession are dependent on where and who one teaches. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports ESL teachers teaching kindergarten up to grade 12 make $41,000 to $46,000 on the average. The Bureau also estimates there will be a need for 20% more ESL teachers by 2020.

Whatever one might think of current immigration issues, the undeniable fact is the U.S. has beckoned people of the world for centuries as the land of opportunity. Because of this, a half-million people are taking that invitation seriously and entering legally. This means graduates with their masters degree in Spanish from the many online school program offerings available are not only going to be around for sometime to come, but are actually quite needed.
