The Importance Of English In The Today`s World And Key Info About Life In The UK

English allow us to be part of a global culture in which every man finds its place thanks to this common language. The notion of “English as a lingua franca” has a great complexity nowadays and it is often included in the globalization discussions. The power of English stays in the Great Britain Colonialism and in the United States` power in all the domains.

Some see the notion of English as a lingua franca as a necessity for the day to day activity of the modern man because all the economic, political and commercial relationships depend on communication and an efficient communication can be performed by people who talk the same language, embrace the same values and have common goals. Our knowledge about UK is not sufficient sometimes when we have greater plans. Life in the UK can have secret features that a student or a regular man cannot find on the internet or in regular books.

We generally know stereotypes about UK. One example will be the description of a “city gent” as a gentleman wearing a dark suit, a bowler hat, a briefcase, and an umbrella, working in the City and epitomising the pride of the upper middle classes. But there are other stereotypes that are even more spread: the Irish are supposed to be great talkers, the Scots have a reputation of being careful with money, the Welsh are renowned for their singing ability, etc.. But we have to be aware that these characteristics are not reliable descriptions of individual people from these countries. Your information about Life in the UK cannot be based on stereotypes when it comes to a citizenship test. You can find on the Internet different sites that provide you the information and the materials created especially for this kind of tests.

Britain is a multicultural society, that`s why we can find many people who are interested in taking the naturalization test. Those interested have to take the test if they are applying for naturalization as a British citizen and their level of English is good. After the year of 2005, all the candidates for UK naturalization have to take the “Life in the UK” test before applying for UK citizenship. The candidate for this test have to answer 24 multiple choice questions in 45 minutes. For a passing grade, the candidate must have a grade higher than 75%, that means at least 18 correct answers. Beginning with March 2005, the candidates have to prepare themselves from the chapters 2 to 4 of the book “Life in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship.

The official test website includes a section describing "What you need to know" for each chapter, but the questions are not in the multiple choice format of the real test. We all need to see the importance of English culture and mentalities in the globalized world. Life in the UK is not only a mandatory thing, but rather a necessity for each person who wants to be accepted in the British society and embrace its mentalities.
