Fast Green Tea Icecream Ideas

Icecream is such a fun dessert in the summer. Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry are all fine and good, but there are times when I'm ready for something a little different. When your taste buds are in the mood for something a little more adult, make up some of this chai tea ice cream recipe and one of my favorite - green tea ice cream. Using green tea powder makes this quick and easy and it's actually somewhat healthy (if you ignore the fact that it's made with heavy cream and sugar). This is such a great dessert to impress your dinner guests and the perfect ending to a light summer meal.

How To Make Green Tea Icecream

* 1 Tbsp matcha green tea powder
* 3 Tbsp hot water
* 3/4 cup milk
* 2 egg yolks
* 5 Tbsp sugar
* 3/4 cup heavy cream

Before you do anything else, dissolve the tea powder in the hot water. Get out a heavy sauce pan and add the egg yolks to it. Whisk them a bit, and then add the sugar and mix until you have a smooth, pale yellow mixture. Pour in the milk and continue to mix until the sugar egg mixture dissolves into the milk.

Turn your stove to low to medium low heat and slowly heat the ice cream mix while stirring constantly. Once it starts to get a bit thicker, remove it from the stove and stir it for a minute or two to let everything cool down a bit. Then add the tea and mix everything really well before sticking it in the fridge for a good 30 minutes to chill.

While the green tea mixture is cooling down, get out your hand mixer and whip the heavy cream into some yummy whipped cream. This will give the ice cream a nice light and airy texture. Fold the whipped cream gently into the cold green tea mixture just until it is incorporated. Scoop it into your ice cream maker and follow the directions for making ice cream, or put everything into a large bowl, stick it in your freezer and stir well every 15 to 20 minutes until you have ice cream consistency.

Last but not least, transfer the finished ice cream into a container with a tight lid and freeze it for about an hour before you serve it. This allows the ice cream to "ripen" and makes it easier to scoop it out when you're ready to eat it.

From here, feel free to experiment by adding additional flavors to your basic ice cream recipe. I particularly enjoy lemon green tea ice cream which you can make by adding a little lemon zest to the green tea mix.

Last but not least, make some strong green tea, allow it to cool and use the tea, a bit of milk and some of this ice cream to make a delicious green tea ice cream shake.

I'm sure your dinner guests will be as impressed as mine were with your new Asian inspired ice cream creations. They are the perfect ending to a Japanese style dinner, but tasty enough to make just for yourself as a treat any day of the week.
